Służewiec Racetrack
With its 138 hectares, Służewiec Racetrack is one of the largest and most beautiful racing tracks in the world. It was opened in June 1939, leaving Varsovians without much time to enjoy the new track before World War II started. Luckily, the track did not suffer too much damage from the war because German soldiers were stationed there. In 1946, Varsovians were able to once again hear the clatter of horses’ hooves. Today, the racing season begins in the spring and runs until the late autumn. The most important events of the season are: Opening Race Day, Ruler Stakes, St. Leger and the races with the longest traditions, namely the Derby and Wielka Warszawska. The area is also used as an important concert and event venue. Many famous artists have performed there, including U2, Depeche Mode, Sting, George Michael, and the Rolling Stones.
