See the youngest Old Town in Europe

The Warsaw Old Town was 90% damaged during World War II, but like a phoenix rising from the ashes, it continues to shine brightly again. To rebuild much of its pre-war landscape and character, the architects responsible for its reconstruction used Canaletto’s finest works of 18th century Warsaw, which can be still seen in the Canaletto Room, at the Royal Castle. You can enjoy a walk in the labyrinth of winding cobblestone streets, discover ornate tenement facades, admire picturesque squares… and easily forget about the tragic history behind this place. The reconstruction of the Old Town ended officially in 1953, while the Royal Castle was reopened to the public only in the mid-1980s, due to a delay by the communist authorities in deciding whether to rebuild this symbol of national identity.
